Imagine putting a pit bull on a leash into your mouth - & liking it.
It seems the more someone gets into wine, the more that person craves acid. I know I’ve tasted acidic wines ranging from Riesling to Gruner Veltliner & back again but I don’t think I’ve ever put anything as close to pure battery acid in my gaping maw & enjoyed it like this Pol Roger Pure Brut. Holy tooth enamel stripper, I’ve never had anything quite like this in my mouth before!
Like many Champagnes, this is a classic blend of 34% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir & 33% Pinot Meunier. Many “Brut” Champagnes receive a dose of sugar while in the cellar. It serves to round out the flavor. But some, like this “Pure Brut” example receive no such dosage. The lack of sugar lays this Champagne bare for all to see.
If pure, restrained power turns you on, this Pol Roger Pure Brut is the Champagne for you.

People don’t want to believe me when I say I pair fine Champagne with takeout food. Why not?
Champagne & fresh fried chicken is a fantastic combination. Bubbly & sushi is my favorite wine & food pairing ever. So it made perfect sense to me when I recently paired this Pol Roger Brut Reserve “White Foil” with takeout from P.F. Chang’s. Some noodles & lemongrass flavored prawns made for a lovely combination with this Champagne’s creamy but dry, toasty flavors. It was so good I finished the leftovers two days later!
Don’t save Champagne for special events - every day we’re alive is a special event! So drink more Champagne. I know I am. Cheers!

People seem surprised when I tell them Champagne Ruinart is available by the glass at my favorite Boston-based restaurant, Troquet. Why is that?
Fine restaurants should serve fine wine, shouldn’t they? Remember my new pal Jillian? She’s in the wine industry but her eyes lit up like the Fourth of July when I ordered a glass of Ruinart rosé for each of us recently. When I mentioned it to TJ Douglas, proprietor of The Urban Grape in Chestnut Hill, he was incredulous.
Please enlighten me: Why is this so hard to believe?
Note: I am the website designer & developer for Troquet. I created their site because it’s my favorite restaurant - not the other way around.

The good folks over at Photoshop Disasters bring us this photo of actress Scarlett Johansson, uncorking Moet Champagne. Problem is, the photo is a mess.
Is Johansson’s left arm even connected to her body? That looks extremely unnatural. Does her companion even have a right arm? Her waist is impossibly tiny & the lighting near his thumb/her side boob looks heavily retouched as well. And why is he soaking wet & she isn’t?
Perhaps most importantly, why does Scarlett look so disinterested in opening that bottle of fine Champagne? That’s the worst acting job she’s ever done!

Now THAT is the way to start a party!
