Dale,
Congratulations on the wine blogs award nomination, as well as your other accolades. Well done.
I had some Delta miles to burn, so I got a subscription to to the Wine Spectator for yucks and grins. Slanted piece of garbage as it has always been. The travel sections are actually quite good, but I can not trust the wine reviews. I think that a wine which rates a 90 in that mag could merit between an 85 or 95 with an independent reviewer, who accepts no advertising. That’s a wide swing. Advertising- the necessary evil of capitalist life in America.
On to wine……
Had a 2005 Burgundy tonight: Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits,
Les Champes Moutons, A. Chopin et Fils
Lovely, but closed. I should have waited a few more months. I have been dying to try the 2005’s and was told that the more generic Bourgognes would be approachable now. Not so with this bottle. Still, lots of spine here with a wide spread of cherry.
Looking forward to trying more.
I also had a noteworthy Aussie Shiraz aptly called Ball Buster.
It was a huge wine. Opaque, almost reddish black. Not a subtle wine this, but it fit the bill with barbeque.
I look forward to an entry about the wines of Friuli and the Veneto, both red and white. I love the wines of the Collio region
of Italy on the Slovenia border.
Cheers,
Matt

Matt, I still think you should mention wine on your weblog. I think that would be an interesting read.
